Situated next to the northeast Savannah River Entrance on Tybee, The Tybee Lighthouse is one of seven lighthouses still standing from the colonial era. It is the fourth tower at this station, however, the first two were not lit.
The light was burned by Confederate Forces in 1862. Sixty feet of the structure remained standing and was the base of the reconstruction of the tower in 1866. The Lighthouse tower has been damaged by hurricane and earthquake. Today, the lighthouse still functions as a navigational aid using it's original lens. #TybeeIslandLighthouse #TybeeIsland #Georgia #SavannahGeorgia #TybeeIslandHistoricalSociety #NationalLighthousePreservation #Lighthouse
