On a visit to Texas in 2008, we decided to go watch the Fort Worth Cattle Drive located in Fort Worth's Stockyards National Historic District. The Cattle Drives occur twice daily and are considered historically accurate based on cattle drives which occurred after the Civil War. At that time longhorn cattle were worth $1 a head in Texas,, while earning about $40 each in the northeast. The profits from the three month trek to railheads in Kansas helped revive the Texas economy. For more information visit https://www.fortworth.com/the-herd/about-the-herd/history-of-cattle-drives/.
