Located on the Island of Kauai, Waimea Canyon is 10 miles wide and 3,000 feet deep. Considered the Grand Canyon of the Pacific, it is a beautiful and magnificent site.
#Hawaii #WaimeaCanyon #GrandCanyonofthePacific #Kauai   52 feet tall, resting on Kilauea Point 180 feet above the ocean, the Kilauea Lighthouse was commissioned May 1, 1913. The lighthouse was restored in 2013. The original 8,000 pound light was designed to float on 260 pounds of mercury. Because of the dangerous properties of mercury the light, which can be seen for 22 miles out into the sea, no longer rotates, but is lit for special ceremonies.
In 2013 the lighthouse was dedicated to Senator Daniel K. Inouye. These pictures, and others, are available for sale. Message me for more information. #KilaueaLighthouse #Kauai #Hawaii #Lighthouse  Originally constructed in 1892 of wood, the pair was lengthened to 340 feet in 1912 and in 1922 was reconstructed with concrete. The shed roof was added in the 1940's.Hurricane Iniki destroyed the roof in 1992. "Save the Pier" through the Hanalei Rotary raised over $170k ti restore the pier by 2013. Hanalei Pier is featured in the movies Beachhead (1954) and South Pacific (1957) and in September 1979 was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. #Kauai #HanaleiPier #Hawaii
