From 2013, taken atop the John Hancock Building. Chicago's Navy Pier with the Chicago Harbor Light in the background.
Navy Pier, designed by Charles Sumner Frost based on a deisgn og the 1090 Plan of Chicago by Daniel Burnham. Originally serving as a dog for freight and passenger ships the pier served many purposes over the years. It has been used as a jail for draft dodgers (1918), Naval Training Center (1941) and again as a commercial port in 1959 when the St. Lawrence Seaway opened. In 1976 the east end buildings were renovated and became home to ChicagoFest. Despite this use, the pier fell into disrepair until 1995 when it was redesigned into the mixed use venue it is today. The Chicago Harbor light was constructed in 1893 for the World's Columbian Exposition and was relocated to it's current spot in 1919. #Sunset #Moonrise #NavyPier #ChicagoHarborLight #1893ColombianExposition #Lighthouse The Prescott VA Hospital framed by Thumb Butte on the left and Granite Mountain on the right. The VA was originally Fort Whipple name after Amiel Weeks Whipple who was mortally wounded in the Battle of Chancellorsville in Virginia. The fort (which at the time was comprised of tents was relocated from it's original location in Chino Valley in May of 1864. From May of 1885 to July 1886 Whipple was home to the Buffalo Soldiers. In April 1898 a delegation of 200 volunteers as the Arizona Cowboy Regiment left Fort Whipple for San Antonio to fight in the war with Spain. They would later be called the Rough Riders.
The main hospital was built in between 1938 an 1939. Fort Whipple was certified on the National Register of Historic Places in 1999. #PrescottVA #FortWhipple #BuffaloSoldiers #RoughRiders #ArizonaCowboyRegiment #PrescottArizona From 2011 - Man Enters the Cosmos in front of the Adler Planetarium with the Chicago Skyline in the background. From July 2008 - Picture from Schnebly Hill Road Trail Head looking east. Named after Carl Schnebly who built a home and general store near Oak Creek in 1900. We was the areas fiorst postmaster and name the postal station Sedona after his wife. The road traverses some very rough terrain from the roundabout at 179 all the way up east to Interstate 17. High clearance vehicles are required, but the ride provides some scenic views. #Rainbow #Sedona #SchenblyHillRoad #FourthtPhotogaraphy #Picturesforsale #Arizona #Fox10Phoenix #WeatherPhotos #AZFamily |
