From 2013, taken atop the John Hancock Building. Chicago's Navy Pier with the Chicago Harbor Light in the background.
Navy Pier, designed by Charles Sumner Frost based on a deisgn og the 1090 Plan of Chicago by Daniel Burnham. Originally serving as a dog for freight and passenger ships the pier served many purposes over the years. It has been used as a jail for draft dodgers (1918), Naval Training Center (1941) and again as a commercial port in 1959 when the St. Lawrence Seaway opened. In 1976 the east end buildings were renovated and became home to ChicagoFest. Despite this use, the pier fell into disrepair until 1995 when it was redesigned into the mixed use venue it is today. The Chicago Harbor light was constructed in 1893 for the World's Columbian Exposition and was relocated to it's current spot in 1919. #Sunset #Moonrise #NavyPier #ChicagoHarborLight #1893ColombianExposition #Lighthouse
