Celebrating 8 years since my move to Prescott Arizona. Granite Mountain as seen from a trail in the Granite Basin Recreation Area. Granite Mountain covers 12 square miles and tops out at 7,628 feet, It was once named Gurley Mountain for the first governor of the Arizona Territory. The sheer granite cliff is one the best locations for rock climbing in Arizona. Portions of it are closed from February through July to protect the nesting of Peregrine Falcons.
