Tonto Natural Bridge State Park
Picture from January 20, 2026 Tonto Natural Bridge is considered to be the largest natural travertine bridge in the world. Situated in the Tonto Natural Bridge State Park (between Pine-Strawberry and Payson on SR87, the tunnel is 400 feet long and is 150 feet at its widest point. First documented by Scotsman David Gowan in 1877 while hiding from the Apache tribe, Gowan eventually persuaded his family to emigrate and move to the area. Gowan’s family lived near the bridge until 1948. The lodge building the Gowans built is part of the National Register of Historic Places. In 1948 Glen Randall purchased the bridge, the lodge and 160 acres of surrounding area. After his death in 1967 his wife sold the property which then became a state park. #TontNaturalBridge #TontoNaturalBridgeStatePark #TontoNationalForest #TravertineBridge #DavidGowan #GlenRandall #Pine #Strawberry #Payson #VisitArizona
