USA 250 Picture from August 2014 The sunrises on the Grand Canyon. It was on this date in 1908 that President Theodore Roosevelt used the Antiquities Act (1906) to designate The Grand Canyon a National Monument. The Canyon is 277 miles long and 18 miles wide reaching a depth of over 1 mile. The rock layers, exposed due to wind and the mighty Colorado River, record much of the geologic history North America. The north rim is about 1,000 feet higher than the south rim where this picture was taken. #USA250 #Grandcanyon #ColoradoRiver #TheodoreRoosevelt #Sunrise #Southrim #Arizona #VisitArizona #GrandCanyonNationalPark
