Red Mountain reflects in the Salt River in the Tonto National Forest on the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Reservation outside Phoenix Arizona. Unfortunately there were no Salt River horses at the river on this visit. Formally know as Mount McDowell, Red Mountain gets its name by the brilliant red color of the oxidize iron-sulfide of which the mountain is comprised.
Mount McDowell is named General Irvin McDowell of the Union Army, the commanding officer of the Department of the West. The Salt River, a fresh water river, gets it's name for the salt deposits the water flows over after merging with the White and Black Rivers. #RedMountain #MountMcDowell #SaltRiver #Phoenix #VisitArizona #TontoNationalForest #Reflections
