Chapel on the Rock

Located just 11 miles from Estes Park in Allenspark, Colorado, the Chapel on the Rock was built in 1936, twenty years after Monsignor Joseph Bosetti came across the large rock formation. Designed by Jacques Benedict on land donated by Oscar Melo and his wife, the church was designated a Boulder County Historic site in 1999.

Shortly after this picture was taken, the chapel survived historic flooding in the area, although much of the surrounding landscape was destroyed.  Longs Peak at 14,239 feet, the highest point in Boulder County, is in the background.
