Flag Day We commemorate the adoption of the American flag by the Second Continental Congress on this date in 1777. The resolution established the design of the flag as 13 stripes and 13 stars representing the original colonies. Flag day was first proposed In 1861 to rally support for the Union in the Civil War. 55 years later President Wilson issued a proclamation designating June 14 as Flag Day. June 14 was officially established by an Act of Congress on August 3, 1949. The American Flag currently has 50 white stars on a field of blue representing the 50 states. There are 13 red and white alternating stripes. The colors represent red for valor, white for purity and blue for vigilance and justice. When an American Flag is folded properly, there are 13 folds. The first fold represents life itself. The second fold representing belief in eternal life. The third fold honors those veterans that have given their life for the country, the fourth represents our reliance for God for guidance. The fifth fold acknowledges and pays tribute to the nation , regardless of its imperfections. The sixth is associated with the pledge of allegiance and a tribute to our nation’s ideals. The 7th fold is a tribute to the armed forces for their role in protecting our country., the eight is a tribute to mothers who have entered the “valley of death:” for the sake of others. The ninth fold honors the contribution of women in shaping our nation. The tenth fold is a tribute to fathers. The eleventh represents the lower portion of the seal of King David and Soloman glorifying the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. The 12th fold represents an emblem of eternity. The final fold is folded so the stars are upper most reminding us in our national motto “In God We Trust”. The thirteen folds are linked to the original 13 colonies, the triangular shape is in honor of the hats worn yt the soldiers during the American Revolution. On February 23, 1945 7 Marines raised the America Flag on Iwo Jimo becoming a symbol of American Victory in World War 2. On April 25, 1976 Chicago Cub Rick Monday, (a US Marine Veteran), playing center field in a game at Dodger Stadium, ran across the field to secure the flag from two deviants who intended to burn it. Many others have taken great lengths to protect the honor of the flag and what it means to the country. As you go about your day today, I hope that you reflect not only on what the flag means, but honor those men and women who have sacrificed a great deal to protect the freedom we enjoy. GOD BLESS AMERICA. #Flagday #UnitedStatesofAmerica #GodBlessAmerica #StarsandBars #Oldglory #ItsaGrandoldFLag

Wrigley (the best dog ever) sits in front of a cabin in Mississippi Palisades Park in Savannah, Illinois. Located on the confluence of the Mississippi and Apple Rivers, the park was first acquired by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources in 1929. In 1973 the US Department of Interior designated it a Unique Natural Landmark. The cabin was built by the Civilian Conservation Corp in 1935. Palisades is the word use to describe steep lofty cliffs along a river. #MississippiPalisadesPark #SavannahIllinois #MississippiRiver #CivilianconservationCorp #appleRiver #Palisades #LabradorRetriever #BestDogEver Feeling Amorous
While on a trip to Skull Valley, I saw the brown horse running towards a group of horses. I turned around and found this scene, one horse looking for affection from another. We all just want some love don't we? #Horses #Amorous #Ranch #Arizona #ArizonaRanch #SkullValley #SkullValleyRanch |
